Sheri Gaddy-Lyons was born on March 16, 1959 in New York. She was the daughter of the late Billy and Marion Gaddy. Sheri was raised in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York. As a youth she enjoyed bike riding, playing handball, rollerskating, dancing and singing with her friends and family. As the oldest child in the household she was often responsible for taking care of her siblings and she took those responsiblities seriously. She was a typically bossy big sister but also caring and protective.
After high school, Sheri took training and began a career in New York as a medical assistant. In 1985 she relocated, along with her young son Tarvarus, to live in St. Petersburg, Florida. In Florida she married and had her second son Alex and later divorced. She continued to work hard as a strong single mother to raise them both. She also went back to school to further her education. She attended the University of Phoenix, eventually graduating with a Masters of Science degree in Nursing.
Sheri went on to hold many positions as a nurse and ultimately as a Nurse Educator at Southern Technical College in Tampa, Florida.
Because she had a love for God, on September 14, 1991 Sheri made one of the most important decisions of her life when she accepted the ransom sacrafice of Jesus Christ and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. During her time as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, she often served as an auxiliary pioneer (a temporary full time minister) and she enjoyed the privilege of working as a nurse in the First Aid department at many Circuit Assemblies, Regional Conventions and on a variety of spritual building projects.
As Sheri grew older, she never lost her love for her favorite hobbies and activities which included spending time with her granddaughters, her family, her friends, and her late mother. She also enjoyed going to the beach, traveling, shopping, and cooking new recipes. She loved to laugh, and she enjoyed a good tasting Southern meal.
Despite taking ill toward the end of her life, Sheri continued to faithfully serve Jehovah until her death on February 2, 2022..
Sheri is survived by her sons, Tavarus Gaddy and Alexander Lyons; her grandaughters Draven and Violet; her siblings Mack Tart, Billy Gaddy Jr., Jeannine Harden, Christopher Gaddy, Rainelle Gaddy and Reggie Gaddy; her spiritual mother and father, Bro. Tyrone Brown and Sis. Mary Brown; as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, beloved friends and spiritual brothers and sisters.
Sheri now rests peacefully, patiently awaiting her resurrection. (John 5:28, 29)
While we await that day, may Jehovah continue to strengthen us all to endure her loss.
