Sheryl Johnson HurbiSimi Valley, CA(January 31, 1950 ? June 15, 2017)After a brave two-year battle with multiple myeloma, Sheryl was called home to be with our Lord on June 15, 2017. Sheryl Ann Johnson was born on January 31, 1950, in Anchorage, Alaska to James Hackett and Doris (McCoy) Johnson. They moved to Scotia, Calif. in 1955 before relocating to Bishop, Calif. in 1965, where in 1968 Sheryl graduated from Bishop Union High School. She attended Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash., graduating in 1972 with a degree in social science. While at Whitworth she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Hurbi of Valley, Wash. Sheryl and Bob were married at Lake Tahoe in 1978, and settled in Simi Valley, Calif. She loved being a stay-at-home mom to her two "precious daughters," Melinda Helen and Mary Eileen. She returned to work in 1992 as an instructor for United Cerebral Palsy, until her retirement in 2008.Sheryl was very active at StoneBridge Community Church, where she was a member for 35 years. She also enjoyed camping in their trailer, reading and spending time with family and friends. She was passionate about helping and encouraging others and sharing her faith in God. She is survived by her husband and love of her life Bob; daughter Melinda Hurbi Witt and husband Kyle Witt of Santa Monica, Calif.; daughter Mary Hurbi of Las Vegas, Nev., and her much-loved grandchildren Kayla Ann Scott and Robert Scott of Las Vegas. Other survivors include brother Mark Johnson and wife Betty of Reno, Nev.; sister Linda Styer and husband Lee of Henderson, Nev., and brother John Johnson and wife Elouise of Normandy Park, Wash. Sheryl is preceded in death by her beloved parents, James Hackett Johnson and Doris (McCoy) Johnson.Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, at StoneBridge Community Church in Simi Valley, with a reception to follow. Burial services will be held in Bishop, Calif.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sheryl's memory to World Vision (
