SHINYA, Shinji "Jack"November 27, 1933 - August 26, 2017 It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Shinji "Jack" Shinya. He passed away on August 26, 2017, surrounded by his family at Rouge Valley Hospital. Shinji was preceded by his parents, Shinsuke and Kitayo, brothers Shizuo (Fuyuko) and Masaichi (Mary), and sisters Kazuye (Yukio-san) Koyanagi, Toshie (Harding) Yasui, but leaves behind a large and extended loving family who will all miss his sweet nature and gentle soul. He leaves behind Hideko, his loving wife of 51 years; his daughters Nicole (James) of Toronto and Jady (John) of Toronto; his much-loved granddaughter Miya; his brother Gene and sisters Yoshiko (Shig) Sakauye and Gloria (Frank) Wakida; and his many nieces, nephews. Shinji was born on November 27, 1933 in Port Essington, British Columbia to Shinsuke and Kitayo Shinya, into a large, loving family. The family moved to Montreal in 1946 before eventually settling in Toronto in 1956. Shinji married Hideko in 1966 in Toronto and they were happily married for 51 years. While building a loving home and teaching his children the skills they would need to succeed in the world, he built up a successful automotive equipment sales and service business. Beneath his quiet demeanor, was an avid competitor, who earned his black belt in karate and again took up the sport after retirement until 2015. With Hideko, Shinji enjoyed spending time with family, especially his granddaughter Miya, watching the Toronto Blue Jays, travelling the world, and the "occasional" opportunity to play the slots. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Rouge Valley Hospital who cared for our father and showed him such kindness and compassion during the time he was there. A visitation will be held at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre at 625 Birchmount Road, Toronto, ON, on September 9, 2017 at 10-11 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., with the burial and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers and Koden, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
