Shirley A. CallisonAge: 86 • StauntonShirley Elaine (Arbogast) Callison, 86, of 14 Frontier Ridge Court, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.Ms. Callison was born on April 20, 1930 in Highland County, Virginia, a daughter of the late Hubert James and Lillian Grace (Snyder) Arbogast.Shirley was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church since 1995, and she worked as an Administrative Assistant at the University of Virginia in the office of the President from 1986 to 1990 and also the Kluge's Children's Hospital and the University Hospital from 1990 to 1994. She attended Shenandoah College and Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Dayton, Virginia. Several generations of Shirley's family farmed in the Bluegrass Valley. Shirley grew up a popular child in Monterey. When she left for college her parents moved to a farm on Shutterlee Mill Road in Staunton. She married S.C. Callison in 1950 and raised her family in Waynesboro until 1972. She lived a few years in Roanoke until she moved to Charlottesville in the 1980s. She returned to Staunton to care for her mother and enjoyed an independent life there. Mrs. Callison had a lifelong love of playing and listening to piano music.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her former husband, Shirley C. Callison.Surviving are two sons, Michael Callison of Washington, DC and Kirk Callison of Buckeystown, MD; and a sister, Treva Moses of Christiansburg.A Graveside service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens by Rev. Bryson
