Shirley A. Smith 1924—2016Shirley A. Smith, 92, of Apple River, IL passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, WI with her family by her side. She was born on February 15, 1924 in Nora, IL to Ralph and Mary Edna (Bird) Mammoser. She married Stanley Smith on February 21, 1942 in Galena, IL. Shirley farmed alongside her husband Stanley, and together they raised 4 children. She enjoyed playing cards, flowers, her Monday outings, Sunday family dinners, baking, cooking, and crocheting for her family and friends. Shirley is survived by her children; Dennis of Palm Springs, CA, Sharon of Apple River, IL, Richard (Lynda) of Apple River, IL, Barbara (Gregory) Jones of Scales Mound, IL; grandchildren Karen (wife of deceased grandson Ryan) Smith, Aaron (Cali) Smith, Travis (Tricia) Smith, Jon Smith, Staci Leitzinger, Brittni (Rusty Montgomery) Jones; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Phyllis Weaver; brother-in-law Virgil Brinkmeier; sister-in-law Babe Smith; several nieces and nephews; and special friend Charlene Williamson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stanley in 2010, grandson Ryan in 2014, sisters; Doris Mahon, Marge Cowell, Norma Stiefel, and Cheryl Brinkmeier, sister-in-law Ruby Smith. The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Cleary, the staff at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington, WI, Warren Area Ambulance, and the Apple River First Responders.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren, IL. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home. Pastor Randy Nicholas will officiate the services.
