Shirley Ann Sharp was born on October 8, 1947 in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico as Shirley Ann Rodriguez and is the oldest daughter of Polish mother, Eleanor Rodriguez (Domka) and Puerto Rican father, Victor Manuel Rodriguez. She is survived by her sons’ Eric Daniel Sharp and Adam Christopher Sharp. She is sister to Yvonne (Bonnie) Brakensiek and Barbara Grant. Shirley was a loving mother and grandmother. She graduated from Lakewood High School, Lakewood, CA in 1966 and attended Long Beach City College. She was married to Daniel Fredrick Sharp from 1969 to 1984. She has one grandson, Oryn Charles Sharp. Shirley was a loving woman who had many interests. She played the accordion when she was young and played at Polish Events. As a young girl, she grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania which was home of her mother. Since her father was in the army throughout her youth she moved with her mother, father and her sister, Yvonne, to Germany, Austria, New York, Texas, Puerto Rico and eventually, Lakewood, California. She graduated from Lakewood High School and Long Beach City College. She married Daniel Fredrick Sharp and had two children, Eric and Adam Sharp. She was a contemporary dancer part of a Los Angeles dance company called Momentum where she was a valuable member, performer and choreographer for many events and venues in the Los Angeles area. After her divorce from Daniel, Shirley became a pharmacy technician and then began her studies at California State University, Long Beach where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Education. After not finding a full time teaching position, she began to study Academic Counseling at California State University, Long Beach, where she received a Master of Science, Counseling: Student Development in Higher Education. After graduating she worked part time in many different counseling positions until retiring. She moved to Spokane Valley, Washington to be a caring and loving grandmother to Adam and Jennifer Sharp (Bateman)’s son, Oryn Charles Sharp. Shirley was a loving woman who loved life, creativity, was an active reader and loving mother and grandmother. She had uterine cancer in 2012 and recovered. She had pancreatic cancer in 2018 and recovered after surgery and chemotherapy. The pancreatic cancer returned in 2020 and after chemotherapy failed, she was taken care of by Jennifer, Eric and Adam at Adam and Jennifer’s house with hospice until she was admitted to hospice. She passed away in hospice on June 25, 2020.
