AUBURN — Shirley Armstrong, 85, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at DeKalb Memorial Hospital. She was born on Sept. 27, 1930, in Fort Wayne to Ralph and Alfreda (Barrow) Sutton. After graduating from Fort Wayne South Side High School in 1948, she moved to Washington, D.C., to work for General Electric. She met her future husband, Ronald "Bud" Armstrong, while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in Washington, D.C. They were married on Aug. 8, 1951, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Shirley is survived by her husband, Bud; two sons, Jeff (Shari Hook) Armstrong of Auburn and Tim Armstrong of Fort Wayne; and a grandson, Scott Armstrong, of Auburn. She is also survived by a sister, Marilyn Slagle, of Fort Wayne; a brother, Steven Sutton of Los Angeles, California; her stepmother, Edna Sutton of Fort Wayne; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Sutton of Woodburn; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Sutton; and a sister, Audrey Craig. She worked for International Harvester, White's Westwood and the DeKalb County License Branch before retiring. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Auburn and the American Legion Post 97 Auxiliary in Auburn. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 S. Center St. in Auburn. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home in Auburn.
