A luncheon will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4525 Beaver Avenue, Des Moines, with visitation to follow at 2:30 p.m., and celebration of life at 3 p.m. by Pastor Neil Cross.Shirley is survived by her daughter Linda (Lee) Tyrrel and son Steve (Linda) Curtis, both of Des Moines; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, two step grandchildren; and brother Jerry (Rose) Edwards of Green Valley, AZ.She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents, son Mike, and granddaughter Becky.Shirley was born on February 15, 1932, in Des Moines, the daughter of George and Dorothy Pittman Edwards. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. On September 30, 1951, she married William E. Curtis, they resided in Des Moines and that is where they raised their family together.Shirley was a lifelong child care giver. Her primary mission in life was to take care of her family and others. She was known as Grandma Shirley by many. She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen baking and making wonderful meals. They spent 12 years at their lake house in northern Minnesota. Those years were very memorable years for all the grandkids and adults as well. Lots of fishing, swimming, and other adventures were done there. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the All Ability Cycles fund in Shirley's name at Spurgeon Manor, 1204 Linden Street, Dallas Center, Iowa 50063.
