It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Diane Edwards, a beloved Mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Diane peacefully passed away on October 30, 2024, surrounded by her family, at the age of 76.
Born on January 29, 1947, in Sarasota, Florida, Diane grew up with a passion for helping others and a deep love for her community.
After his service, John returned to Denver and began a long career in engineering, working for more than 30 years with Baxter & Co. Known for his meticulous work ethic, he played a key role in several landmark construction projects in the region. His colleagues often referred to him as “the man who could build anything.”
Outside of work, John was an avid outdoorsman who loved hiking, fishing, and camping with his family. He spent countless weekends in the Rockies, passing on his love for nature to his children and grandchildren. He also volunteered regularly at his local church, where he served as a deacon and mentor to many younger members of the congregation.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Mary Thompson; his two children, David Thompson (Lisa) and Sarah Marshall (John); his four grandchildren, Emma, Grace, Michael, and Jacob; and his brother, Edward Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Thompson.
John’s family invites you to celebrate his life at a memorial service on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Denver, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in John’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
John will be remembered for his generosity, his dedication to family, and his unwavering faith. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
