Shirley Ellen BaxleyApril 1, 1917 - December 20, 2016TulareShirley Ellen Smith Baxley passed away on December 20, 2016. She was born on April 1, 1917 with her twin sister Charlotte Elliott to Clinton and Eula Smith in Visalia, California. At the time of passing she was 99 1/2 and surrounded by her family. Shirley attended Oak Grove grammar school and graduated from Visalia High School. Shirley then attended Business School where she earned an Associate of Arts Degree. On March 14, 1940 she married Woodrow (Chuck) Baxley. They established their home in Tulare where they were ranchers and raised two children, Duane Baxley and Charlene Baxley-Zotti. Shirley was a homemaker most of her life, but not your typical homemaker. She helped with the cattle on the ranch every day along with taking care of the yard, her family, and hosting most family and holiday gatherings. She was also an active member of Tulare Methodist Church and Cattle Woman's Association. She was Cattle Woman of the Year in 2008.She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow; sisters Charlotte Elliott and Melba Korsinen; and daughter, Charlene. Her survivors include her son, Duane (Billie Jo) of Paso Robles, and his children, Randy Baxley (Beth) of Visalia and Clay Baxley (Kaylee)of Paso Robles; Charlene's daughter, Brandy Zotti-Peters (Jeff) of Visalia; 7 great-grandchildren: Jadyn, Sierra, Kennedee, Bailey, Taylor, Shaylee, and Cheyenne; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Austin.Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at the Tulare Public Cemetery, 900 E.
