Shirley L. McKinnon, 81, of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016 at the Gables Assisted Living Center in Shelley.Shirley was born on Aug. 19, 1935 in Walsenberg, Colorado to Alden Rowe and Mary Elizabeth Boone Wyatt. Shirley grew up in Pueblo, Colorado and attended Central High School and Colorado State University in Fort Collins.While growing up she was active in 4-H and rodeo. She was an avid horse rider and in her early years a rodeo queen. Shirley met Wayne Tyson McKinnon Jr. while at college and they were married July 11, 1954 in Pueblo. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saintsin February 1956. Shirley loved to cook and sew, winning many awards. She has decorated more than 200 wedding cakes in Bingham County and the surrounding area. She enjoyed 4-H and helped in various leadership roles.Shirley worked for State Hospital South for more than 30 years and received numerous awards and accolades during that time. She and Wayne loved to square dance and were active in Farm Bureau, church and community.Shirley is survived by her daughters, Marjorie Lusk of Ammon and Elizabeth Harper of Blackfoot; son, David (Joy) McKinnon of Firth; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents and brother, George.Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18 and again from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
