Shirley Wilson LegerOPELOUSAS - Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in Episcopal Church of the Epiphany of Opelousas for Shirley Leger, age 82, the former Shirley Wilson, who passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.The Rev. Matt Woollett, pastor of Episcopal Church of the Epiphany of New Iberia, will officiate at the services.Mrs. Leger was born on March 28, 1935 to Johnny and Myrtle Wilson. She graduated from Opelousas High School and was a valued member of the girls' basketball team while attending there. Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Curtis Leger. After high school, she worked as a proof reader for the Daily World before moving on to work for the Louisiana Department of Revenue. After years of also working part-time selling real estate, Shirley obtained her real estate broker's license, joining her father in what became the renamed firm of Andrus-Wilson-Leger Real Estate. After the death of her father, she owned and operated Shirley Wilson Leger Real Estate for many years, before merging with Van Eaton & Romero. She worked daily until last year, when she decided to move to part-time status. Mrs. Leger was also a longtime member of the
Rotary Club. She especially enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Visiting on vacation between timeshares in New Orleans, on the Gulf Coast and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico was one of her favorite pastimes. She had a generous, loving spirit, which enabled her to continue a family tradition of reaching out in love to those in need. Shirley was surrounded by a large extended family, not all being blood related, but all related by love. Survivors include her son, Don Curtis Leger and his wife, Jeanette; her daughter, Lynette Leger Angelle and her husband, Frank; her sister, Barbara Wilson Baronne and her husband, Dr. Edgar, all of Opelousas; her daughter-in-law, Andrea Marrero Leger of Baton Rouge; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Leger; her son, John Walter Leger; and her parents, John Wilson and the former Myrtle James. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.The family would like to extend a special thank you to Alana Gilley and Dr. Randy Daigle for their care and compassion.View the obituary and guestbook online at
