Shirley Margaret Pyett (née Campbell), of Melfort, SK, passed away on January 1, 2017. She was 82 years old.Shirley is survived by her children, David (Sandi) of Ottawa, ON, Bruce (Miriam) and Brenda (Dan Craig) of Saskatoon, SK, and her five grandchildren: Graham, Bronwyn, and Mitchell, of Saskatoon, SK, Kaitlyn of Leeds, UK, and Malcolm, of Ottawa, ON. She is predeceased by her husband, Marvin Pyett; her son, Wayne; her daughter, Elizabeth Anne; her parents, Mabel and Malcolm (Mac) Campbell; Marvin's parents, Harley and Mary Pyett; and her sister, Sylvia Higgins.Shirley was born on August 19, 1934, in Glidden, SK to Malcolm and Mabel Campbell. After spending the first few years of her childhood on her family's homestead outside Glidden, she moved to Melfort where she lived for the rest of her life. In 1953 she married her high school sweetheart Marvin Pyett, and together they had 5 children. Primarily a homemaker, Shirley also worked as a photo retoucher and colourist, and later at Melfort Electric, where Marvin was a part owner and employee. She also served on the Melfort Library Board and was a faithful member of the Melfort United Church. Shirley had a number of hobbies over her life, including knitting, sewing, quilting, and woodworking with her husband. She would always take to new skills quickly, and excelled at everything she put her mind to. Marvin and Shirley were also avid motorcyclists, exploring western Canada on their touring bike. They also loved to go camping in their RV. In later years Shirley enjoyed travelling with her friends, from short jaunts to the casino to a trip-of-a-lifetime cruise. She loved spending time with her family, whether in Saskatoon or Ottawa, but especially at Waskesiu for her annual birthday party. Shirley passed away peacefully in the Melfort Union Hospital after a short illness. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nanny), and a good friend to those who knew her. The funeral is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at Melfort United Church. Rev. Charles McKenzie will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Shirley's life.
