On Thursday, April 6, 2023, Sid G. Hester, Sr., gained his wings. Sid received his eternal peace, where there is no sadness, sickness, suffering, problems, just happiness forever. Sid G. Hester, Sr., affectionately known as "Dayoe" was born October 25, 1937, to Mary and Mark Hester. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined Zion Spring Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Sid would later become a deacon there, where he served faithfully for 56 years.

At Zion Spring Baptist Church is where he found and married the love of his life Dorothy Jones. From this union came three children, Alexander, Alexis, and Sid Jr. He also adopted Dorothy`s three children, Arthur, James and Alison Thomas, where he raised, loved, and nurtured them as his own.

Sid was always helping someone no matter, who they were, what they did, or what path in life they had chosen. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to stand up for what was right. He loved his family and friend dearly. He even loved those that particularly didn't love him.

He was a lifelong fan of Alabama, "rolling with the tide" was one of his favorite quotes, he always joked that "roll tide was in his DNA".

Sid was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Hester, parents Mary and Mark Hester, and siblings, Theodore Hester, Frank Hester, Lucille Bryant and James Hester. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Alexander Hester, Alexis Stone, Sid Hester Jr., Arthur Thomas, James Thomas, and Alison Thomas; 18 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

His kind soul, his helpfulness, his giving spirit, and loving heart will truly be missed but not forgotten. His memory and legacy will forever live on.
