WILSON, Silvia MabelJuly 9, 1962 - March 29, 2017Silvia passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 with her family at her side. Silvia was born on July 9, 1962 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She moved to Vancouver, Canada as a young girl with her mother Rafaela (Sanabria) and stepfather, Douglas. Silvia attended Convent of the Sacred Heart High School and later received her BSN, RN and MA Degrees from UBC where she was also currently a PhD candidate. For twenty-five years, Silvia was a member of Douglas College as former Associate Dean of Health Sciences and a faculty member in the Health Care Support Worker program. Her passion for promoting practical wisdom (phronesis) whereby students develop wisdom and empathy in caring for others was central to her philosophy of health care education. And she personified this philosophy in her every day. With vivacity and warmth, Silvia touched many who knew her. She was an engaging and supportive board member of Pacific Storm Water Polo club and the Burnaby Barracudas swim club and was team manager for the Pacific Storm u14 Girls water polo team these past couple of years. As the proud mother of an athlete, supporting her daughter's love of water polo gave her immeasurable joy. Silvia was predeceased by her mother, Rafaela Wilson. Silvia is survived by her beloved spouse of 24 years, Kelly, daughter Ariana, prima hermana Jorgelina, and many relatives both in Canada and Argentina, as well as many friends and colleagues - "Gracias a la Vida." A Celebration of Life will be held in early June (to be announced). A private service will be held for immediate family members in April. In lieu of flowers, a fund in Silvia's name will be set up through the Douglas College Faculty of Health Sciences.
