Solomon Alexander "S.A." Chandler was born on December 22, 1926, in Cairo, Illinois to Maude and Billy Chandler. He passed away on January 23, 2017, at the age of 90, in his Antelope, California home. At the age of 16, during WWII he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a proud member of the Scout and Raiders, Under Water Demolition Team. He retired as a California State Police Officer after serving three Governors. He was a great man that will always be remembered as a loving husband, caring father and proud Papa. All who knew him would say he was a man that valued a sense of humor and was always telling jokes. He was preceded in death by his son Tim Chandler, granddaughter Courtney Stein, son-in-law Jimmy Stein, and grandson-in-law Kevin Banford. Also, his parents Billy and Maude Chandler, siblings Emma Rose Wamble and Bill Chandler. S.A. is survived by his bride of 65 years, Helen Chandler; children Carolyn (Patrick) McGuire, Stephen (Nancy) Chandler, Terrie Chandler, and MaryAnne Stein; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and his beloved sister Becky Baker. Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass on Monday, January 30 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 4325 Don Julio Blvd. in North Highlands. Committal services at Calvary Catholic Cemetery and reception to follow at VFW Post 4647 at 3300 U St. in Antelope. Professional services entrusted to Lombard Funeral Home.
