Stanley JayCarruthers Jr.May 9, 1940 -December 3, 2016A funeral service will be held for Stanley Carruthers at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2016, at Buell Chapel, in Springfield. Stanley was born on May 9, 1940 in Portland, Oregon to Stanley and Madelyn Carruthers.He passed away on December 3, 2016 in Eugene and is survived by his sister, Karlyn Carruthers and relatives in Canada. He was 76 years old.Stanley was a General Service Worker for Lane Transit District (LTD) for 29 years, from 1973 to 2002. In 2002, he received an Outstanding Achievement Award from LTD for 24 Years of Safe Work. Prior to LTD, Stanley worked for the Eugene Hotel from 1967 to 1973 and for the Sunset Home and Convalescent Hospital from 1963 to 1966.Stanley grew up in Marcola and graduated from Mohawk High School in 1960. His graduating class voted him the "friendliest" person.Stanley settled in West Eugene and attended Eugene Faith Center. He had many friends throughout the years who became like family. He was generous and opened his home to help friends through transitional periods.He loved camping, fishing, the coast, bowling, pizza, rum nuggets and ice cream -- not necessarily in that order. He loved animals and adopted a stray cat, Lucky, whose companionship he enjoyed for many years.Stanley was beloved by his friends and family and will be greatly missed.He is in a better place now, where there is no sickness or suffering.
