CALEDONIA - Stanley “Dean” Howe Jr. died peacefully at his home on November 10, 2016 in Racine, WI at the age of 86. Dean was united in marriage to Arlene Betty Conklin from New Hartford, IA, on September 26, 1959, and together they raised four children. He is survived by his wife, Arlene B. (née Conklin) Howe; children, Blake Howe (Joy), Julie Fries (Mike), Coleen Urban (Scott), and Eric Howe (Kristin), sister Sylvia Jean Hanson (Howard), seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Stanley Dean Howe and Sylvia Lilian (née Musil) Howe. Dean was born on May 14, 1930, in Racine. He graduated from Horlick High School in 1948 and was employed at Walker Manufacturing. On September 20, 1951, he enlisted in the army and was stationed in Ashia, Japan, to support the 8081st army airborne, supplying the front lines on the 38th parallel in Korea during the war. He was honorably discharged on August 26, 1953, and enrolled at MIT (Milwaukee) where he studied drafting. After graduation he worked for MD Blowers then J.I. Case as a draftsperson until his retirement. He enjoyed boating throughout most of his life and was active in the Fifth Street Yacht Club in Racine. Dean enjoyed trips on Lakes Michigan, Superior, and Huron, plus the Mississippi and other waters with family and friends. Other interests and passions were photography, working on his 1955 Willys Jeep, tractors, and cars, and tending the family’s apple orchard and garden. Dean’s funeral service will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Friday November 18, 2016 at 10:30 am with Rev. Craig Conklin officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 9:00 am. until service time at 10:30 am.. Dean will be laid to rest with full military honors at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dean’s life.
