Stanley Yost Obituary

Apr 22, 1924 - Jan 06, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Stanley K. YostJanuary 6, 2017Stanley K. Yost was born on April 21, 1924 to Nora & Carl Yost in Mendota, Illinois. Stan proudly served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII, returning home to his high school sweetheart Barbara, who he married on March 29, 1947. Their 69 plus year marriage was filled with love and took them on many adventures moving them to Royal Oak, Michigan where they provided a loving home to their four children, Beth (Michael) Kastner, Steve (Janice) Yost of Royal Oak, Michigan, Joel Yost of Pearl, Mississippi and Jennifer (David) Nichols of Fort Myers, Florida.Stan enjoyed being a collector, which began early in his 92 years, and had a lifetime involvement in automotive related occupations as well as authoring several books on cars. In 1978, Stan and Barbara ventured to their final home in Fort Myers, Florida. This move proved to be a most rewarding decision as it began their life of retirement. It did not take long for this friendly couple to be befriended by their new community as they joined a new church family and Stan became a member of the Pilot Classes of WWII. His involvement grew quickly as he became an integral member of this elite group of veterans, offering his literary skills as Secretary and editor of the quarterly newsletter for over 25 years. Trips across the United States to annual reunions, formed strong emotional bonds with fellow pilots and their families. Stan was truly honored to be of service to this country.Stan's greatest joy was his love of his family and his faith and he was very active in church work throughout his life. Stan's greatest sadness was the premature death of his first child Beth; and even through this great loss, Stan's faith was unwavering.Stan will continue to be loved and honored by his wife and family (including four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nephews and niece) and his only surviving sister, Nora Jean (James) Rollins of Rockford, Illinois.A celebration of Stan's life will be held at Faith United Methodist Church on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations to Faith United Methodist Church or Hope Hospice, in his honor.
