HOWLAND - Stella Madeline Sereyko, 101, passed away on July 9, 2018, in Lincoln, ME. She was born on Oct. 29, 1916, in Eagle Lake, ME, to Richard and Phoebe Despres McLaughlin.
Stella was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Francis Sereyko, her siblings, Dora, Graziella, Corinne, Clarence, Everett, Roger, Ethel, Hilda, and Roderick, and her daughter-in-law, Laura Sereyko. She is survived by five children, Joan and Phillip McPhail, Jean and John (Jack) Neel, Richard (Don) and MaryLou Sereyko, Linda and Frank Bartron, and Francis (Dale) Sereyko, and a very close friend, Greg Swett, whom Stella considered her third son. Stella had 15 grandchildren, LuAnn, Phillip, Paul, Peter, Michelle, Deborah, Julie, Patty, Beth, Greg, Kevin, Jan, Heather, Kristin, and Megan. She also had seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Stella was a communicant of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Howland, a longtime member of Old Town Chapter Daughters of Isabella, and Ladies of St. Anne. Francis and Stella operated Sereyko's Store from 1956-1978 which was Stella's passion. She was known for her Italian sandwiches, homemade bread, baked beans, and "Stella's donuts." Stella was a very compassionate person and her home was open to many who lived there at various times. She had many friends, too numerous to mention them all. She spent many happy hours at their camp at South Branch Lake in Seboeis, ME.
Friends may call from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, at St. Leo Catholic Church, with the Rev Richard Malo presiding. Interment will be in St. Matthew Cemetery, West Enfield.
