Steve passed away peacefully on November 9, 2015, in Petaluma, with his wife of 65 years, Mary, by his side, after being surrounded by family for days.
Steve was a native Californian, born in Esparto in 1929 and graduated from St. Peter’s High School in San Francisco in 1947. He met Mary while in high school, and they were married in 1950. Both worked at Crocker Bank, where he rose from Teller to Senior Vice President of Branch Operations during a 41 year career, interrupted by service in the Marine Corps from March, 1952, to May, 1953. They made their home in San Francisco, Fremont, Los Gatos, Novato, and for many years in San Rafael and, most recently, Petaluma.
He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Sue Hamilton (Jim) of Petaluma, son Steve (Eva) of Houston, son Jim (Sheila) of Cotati, grandchildren Sarah Simmons (Mike), Lucas, Liz Stone (Kevin), Casey (Claire), Stephen, Ryan, and Meagan, great-grandchildren Bryden, Charlotte, and Jesse, and brother Barry (Joanne) of Sherwood, Oregon.
He played multiple sports and was an avid fan of the 49ers, Giants, Warriors, and any team on which his children or grandchildren played. He was a devoted family man with a kind heart, sharp sense of humor, and strong faith. He was and will remain a role model to all he left behind. He will be greatly missed.
He was interred at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Petaluma in a private ceremony on November 12. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 125 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy, Petaluma, or Petaluma Valley Hospital Foundation, 409 N. McDowell Blvd., Petaluma.
