Stephen J. Matula1913 - 2016Stephen J. Matula, 103, of Kenosha, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at St. Joseph's Home and Rehabilitation Center where he was much loved and cared for. He was born on Jan. 6, 1913, the eldest of six children, to the late Stephen and Anna (Orsak) Matula, Sr.; who were both born in Slovakia. His father died of pneumonia and Stephen became head of the family. He served in the China Burma India Theatre during WWII as a Medic. He lived in Chicago, IL for most of his adult life and was active in his parish of Sacred Heart and the Moose Lodge. He was a department foreman for Reliable Electric in Illinois for 35 years. While never married, Stephen was very involved in the lives of his brothers, sister and nieces, nephew and great-nephew. He was a dedicated and loving brother, uncle and great-uncle. His life was guided by his Catholic faith that was an integral part of his life.Stephen is survived by his loving nieces, Mary Andrews, Sr. Clare Marie Rohunty and Phyllis Garber; nephew, John Matula and great-nephew, Matthew Andrews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Wally and Emil; his sister, Anne Rohunty and two siblings in infancy.Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. at the St. Anthony Catholic Church, 5100 22nd Ave. Interment will follow in St. George Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation will take place for Stephen on Tuesday, May 10, from at the church 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to the family would be appreciated.
