Stephen StamperStephen Kent Stamper, 75, of Battle Ground, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at IU University Hospital in Indianapolis after a brief battle with cancer.He was born on September 3, 1942 in Indianapolis to the late Charles S. and Mary Jane (Horn) Stamper.Stephen graduated from New Market High School in 1960.On October 2, 1999, he married Linda L. Keller. He was previously married to Sandra Ellen Martin Stamper.Stephen worked for Tipmont REMC for 35 years. He started his employment as a groundman in Battle Ground eventually becoming the warehouse supervisor in Linden, retiring in 2000. He had previously worked for R.R. Donnelley in Crawfordsville.Stephen was a member of Battle Ground Lodge 313 F & AM for 50 years, Murat Temple in Indianapolis where he served as the Potentate's Aide for 7 years, Byron Cox Post 72 S.A.L in Crawfordsville, Tippecanoe Shrine Club where he served as President 5 times and President of Top Sixty for 16 years. He organized the 5th grade class trip for Tippecanoe School Corporation to the Murat Shrine Circus for 27 years.Stephen was known to his friends as "Stubby" and was always quick witted and loved telling a good story or joke. He was a avid NASCAR and Indy car fan. He especially enjoyed attending races with his family.Surviving are his wife, Linda Stamper of Battle Ground; his children, Michael Kent (Amie) Stamper of Spring Hill, FL and Karla Stamper of Lafayette; step children, Bob Schnepp, Joe (Ginnye) Schnepp, Scott Schnepp, and Becky (Eric) Mansfield; his brothers, C. Conley (Josie) Stamper of San Juan Cosala, Mexico and Scott Stamper of Lafayette; and his sisters, Sondra (John) Newman of Edmond, Oklahoma, Cheryl (Sam) Puzzello of Lebanon, and Cathy Kelley of Philpot, Kentucky. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Nicholas Stamper and Daniel Stamper and several nieces and nephews.His beloved chihuahua, Lucy, will miss laying on his lap.He was preceded in death by his 3 year old daughter, Dawn Michelle Stamper.Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Fisher Funeral Chapel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services following at 1 p.m starting with a Masonic Service. Interment will be in Linden Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to in Chicago in loving memory of Stephen.
