Stephen Thomas NacyStephen Thomas Nacy, age 15, was taken away too quickly due to ALS. He passed away peacefully on December 13, 2016 surrounded by his loving family in his home. He was born on July 16, 2001 in Springfield, Missouri to Jim and LeaAnn Nacy. Even when diagnosed with ALS, Stephen faced the disease with his infectious smile, tender heart and fighting spirit. He never gave up hope and remained positive until the end. Stephen loved attending Kingsway United Methodist Church Youth Group and Cooper Tennis Academy. He loved playing doubles with his best friend and older brother Michael. He enjoyed Sunday dinners and Fourth of July celebrations at Granny's. Stephen looked forward to playing tennis for Republic High School and singing in the Republic High School Choir. He enjoyed texting and Snapchatting his family and friends, playing board games and UNO. Stephen had an inquisitive mind and a protective spirit, watching out for others by listening and reporting weather radio alerts, setting up alarm systems or by just being a friend. Stephen was proud of being awarded the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Missouri Valley Boys' 12 Sportsmanship Award in 2013. Stephen was preceded in death by Jerry "Papa" Gregory and Richard and Mary Nacy. Stephen is survived by his parents Jim and LeaAnn Nacy, his best friend and big brother Michael, godparents Kevin and Lynda Moore, grandmother Margaret Gregory, cousins Trent (Jayme), Walker and Weston Moore; Adam (Kristen) Owens; uncles Phil, Pete (Nanette), John (Kathy) and Mike Nacy and Aunt Katie Casteel; and adopted grandmother Elaine Berzins and many more family and friends. Special thanks to the excellent health care and friendship Stephen received from Dr. Jim Collins, Julie, Stephanie and Renee; and Dr. Sara Caffey and Henrietta. The visitation will be held Friday, December 16, 2016 from 4-7 PM at Greenlawn East funeral home.
