This obituary is administered by:
Stephen Wayne JonesOjai , CA Stephen Wayne Jones, known to many friends as "Chopper," passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2017, in Ojai. Steve was a friend to everyone he met and cared deeply for his family and friends. His many passions included Harley Davidson motorcycles, hot rods and anything fast. He was born March 2, 1953, in Porterville, Calif., to Quinton and Marquetta Jones. In 1964, his family moved to Fresno, where his father took a job with the State of California. In 1966, he moved with his parents to Ventura, where he graduated from Buena High School in 1971. In 1979, Steve moved his own family back to Porterville where his son Brett Stephen Jones was born on Feb. 28, 1980. While in Porterville, he worked for the Porterville Fire Department as a Firefighter/EMT. Steve later followed in his father's footsteps, when he began his second career as a building contractor. Earning a great reputation as a contractor, he was hired to manage the construction of all Wendy's Restaurants in Southern California. Upon completion of his last restaurant, he returned to Ventura and launched his own successful construction business. The next and best remembered phase of his life began in 1994 when he met Jan, the love of his life. Steve and Jan were married in 1999. They soon purchased and remodeled a beautiful home in Ojai. Together they planned and created stunning gardens filled with all of Jan's favorite flowers and fruit trees. Steve designed river rock flowerbeds and walls around their property. They cared for every plant and flower together in a fairy tale life. Jan and Steve doted on each other and she was by his side when he took his last breath before leaving us and going to heaven. In 2000 Steve started a 16-year career with R&R Pipeline in Santa Paula. There he served as general manager and enjoyed the many challenges of each new project. He said the company owner and the employees were more like family than work associates. Steve is survived by his wife, Jan Jones; son, Brett Jones and his beautiful daughter-in-law, Jessica; daughter, Shona Marrs and son-in-law Jeffrey Marrs, and son, Brian Teasdale. In the summer of 2016, Steve took great pleasure in joining with Brett and Jessica on their wedding day. Steve and Jan loved spending time with nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Steve is also survived by his sister and best friend for life, Dustye Brixey; his niece, Kim Batty, and her husband Steve; great nieces, Katherine German and Brooke Rouch; and great-great niece, Zoe Sanchez. He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Jennifer Rouch; in-laws, John and Lorene Acord; his loving aunt, Kathleen "Kap" Thompson and aunt, Caroline "Perk" Johnson. Services for Stephen Wayne Jones will be May 20 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Living Christ, 190 E. El Roblar Dr., Ojai. Graveside services will follow at Pierce Brothers Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Rd., Santa Paula. Arrangements are by Perez Funeral Home, 1347 Del Norte Rd, Camarillo, Calif. There will be a private family viewing at Perez Brothers on May 19, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. after which, family and friends are invited to an open viewing, 5 p.m. through 8 p.m. A "go fund me" account has been established to help the Jones Family through this difficult time:
www.gofundme.com/steve-chopperjones-memorial-fund Steve wished there would be a celebration of life, rather than a funeral, and all who attend are invited to dress casually and drive in a "cruise" style procession. All are strongly encouraged to drive their motorcycles, hot rods or muscle cars to be a part of the procession from Ojai to Santa Paula.
