Steven D. CullinanAltoonaSteven Duane Cullinan, a longtime science teacher and wrestling coach at Southeast Polk High School, died early Sunday morning at the age of 65.Steve was born on January 3rd 1952, in Clarion, Iowa, into a family with an affinity for math, science and mechanics. He was interested in wrestling and martial arts at an early age, enjoyed working on cars, and always had a dog.The University of Northern Iowa graduate spent his whole life impacting fellow Iowans and their children as a public school teacher. Mr. Cullinan was known for his encyclopedic knowledge, jack of all trades, fearless demeanor, and quiet persona, which commanded respect.Steve is survived by his wife Sandee; his adult daughters Rebekah, Sarah Foster (Zach), Jaclyn Franchetti and his grandson Taber Kearney; his brothers Jack, Tom, and Mike; his sister Pam Reese; numerous nephews and nieces; and his beloved dog Duke.Visitation services are Thursday, June 22, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Altoona. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for the same venue Friday at 10 a.m., with burial services afterward at Rising Sun Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Steven Cullinan Science Scholarship Fund via the Southeast Polk Dollars for Scholars program.
