Gone too soon

Steven Delano Cooper 60, of (Jacksonville,FL), died on September 25, 2024 after a hard fought battle with cancer.

Steven was the firstborn to Delano and Patricia Cooper in Daytona Beach, FL in 1964. His love for sports and the outdoors stemmed from childhood and growing up in Middleburg where he met his lifelong friend Stephen Moore. They were practically inseparable throughout their lives.

Despite being hit by a drunk driver at the age of 19 years old and having doctors place permanent screws and 164 permanent staples in his lower leg he went onto a successful career in waste water and grew a family of his own.

Steven met the love of his life, Deborah (Riel) Cooper in 1981 and married in 1987. Although after decades married, they eventually divorced, they remained great friends and loving parents to their three children: Steven Michael Cooper, Krysti Nicole (Dixon), & BreAnna Lee (Lewis). Family and work led to a few state moves throughout his life. As a family they began in Macclenny, FL-they moved to Woonsocket, RI, then to Naugatuck, Connecticut before establishing a home and community in Titusville, FL where they moved in 1997.

Steven was a simple man that loved hunting and fishing, but his favorite role was that of a Granddaddy to his seven grandchildren. Jordan (15), Payton (14), Weston (12), Ayla (9), Emmett (6), Evie (5), & Alden (2). He treasured his time with his grandkids and never hesitated to buy them a new fishing pole or bait a hook for anyone of them that needed help.

The end of Steven’s life started with a cancer diagnosis in May 2023. He attended chemo regularly and was well taken care of by his sister, Dawn Darnell, who sought the best treatment for him in Tallahassee, FL. He fought tirelessly and somewhat easily for quite a while, but as the end crept near, he had his family by his side and was surrounded by the love he created over 40 years ago.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Delano Cooper and Patricia Cooper. He is survived by his siblings Michael (Sherry) Cooper and Dawn Darnell. His children Steven Cooper, Krysti Dixon, & BreAnna Lewis. Several nieces and nephews, and his seven grandchildren.
