Steven Karel Thomas, 61, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is the son of Karel and Nada Jean Thomas. He was born on April 1, 1953, and lived his entire life in Bloomington, Idaho. In his early years he enjoyed running around town with cousins and friends. He was always willing to give a helping hand when needed. He attend Idaho State University and studied mechanics. After returning home he had various jobs. In 1977 he started at the Kemmerer Coal Mine in Wyoming as a mechanic for a period of time. Then found his career as a welder there instead, which he did for 37 years. Steve enjoyed creating with his hands. He built beautiful things out of wood and he would custom make the things he desired out of metal. Steve had a strong work ethic, liked to keep busy, but when he did rest you'd find him lying on the floor in front of the fire. Steven finally decided it was time to get that motorcycle he always wanted, so he bought a Harley Davidson Switchback and thoroughly enjoyed riding it. When he retired this last April he spent quality time with his friends and family.Steven is survived by his mother, Nada Jean Thomas, his siblings Connie, Cindy, Wayne, Brenda and his seven daughters: Darcy (Shawn) Hemmert of Middleton, Idaho. Melissa (JJ) Clark of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mandy Jean (Brady) Kent of River Heights, Utah. Danielle (Todd) Gow of Dallas, Texas. Aspen Thomas (Rob Martinez) of Salt Lake City. Stephanie Thomas (Andy Salerno) of Montpelier, Idaho. Ciara (JJ) Lloyd of Montpelier, Idaho; 15 grandchildren: Patience and Azlyn Hemmert, Hailey and Luke Clark, Grace, Annabel and Wyatt Kent, Acacia and Jaedyn Brown, Drayson and Donavin Martinez, Kegan Salerno, Mya, Piper and Millie Lloyd.He is preceded in death by his father, Karel S. Thomas, former wife Janelle Nelson Thomas, and niece Toya Thomas.A viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Paris Stake Center on Saturday, Nov. 1, and funeral services will be at 1 p.m. The interment will be in the Bloomington Cemetery.
