Sue Carter passed away in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving, November 24, 2016. She was born on July 1, 1942, her brother Kirby's fifth birthday, to Opal and Kelly Brown, both deceased.Sue grew up in Big Spring and lived here for the majority of her life. She graduated from Big Spring High School in 1960. She worked at Texas Electric as a Senior Secretary for 12 years from 1960 until 1972.She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Big Spring, and served as Treasurer of the church in Big Spring for 10 years.She belonged to the American Contract Bridge League and enjoyed playing bridge weekly with her Bridge group at the Country Club, until her health would no longer allow her to play.Sue married the love of her life, Joel K. Carter, Jr. (known as Flannel) in Lubbock, Texas, on Dec. 9, 1972. She and Flannel enjoyed entertaining friends, traveling, and family. Even though Sue and her husband didn't have children of their own, they doted on all of their nieces and nephews. In the later years of their marriage, Sue served as caregiver to Joel up until his death in March of 2000.Preceding her in death, her mother, Opal French; her husband, Joel K. Carter Jr.; and nephew, Stephen Lyn Ray.Survivors include her brother, Kirby Brown of Big Spring; sisters, Judy Ray of Dallas, Texas, and Darleene Herring of Lubbock, Texas. Sue has three nephews, Kirby Brown II, Bobby Harrison, and Kelly Herring. Sue also has four nieces, Terri Bauer, Andrea Gee, Ronda Rutledge, and Shanna Cahill.The family extends their special gratitude to Juna Roper, Sue's housekeeper; and Pauline Nelson, her neighbor and best friend. Also to the caregivers at Park View that helped care for Sue, we thank you!Pallbearers will be Tom Hooks, Leland Cahill, Zane Rutledge, Gary Gee, Kirby Brown II, and Dylan Cahill.A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, 701 Runnels Street, Big Spring, Texas. Sue requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the church or given to the .
