Susie Alires, 85, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Vida Encantada Nursing & Rehab Home.She was born on Dec. 8, 1927, in Las Tusas to her parents Benjamin Baca and Vicentita Silva Baca.Susie was involved in starting the Las Vegas Housing Projects in Las Vegas. She also worked for the Las Vegas City Schools for 14 years as a foster grandparent. A Catholic, and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Martin Baca; brothers, Benny Baca and Andres Baca; sister, Cecilia Lucero and son-in-law, Edwin Lovato.She is survived by her daughters, Theresa Salazar, Maxine Archuleta, Viola Martinez all of Las Vegas, Antonia Martinez, Sylvia Martinez all of Albuquerque, Patsy Lovato of Glorieta, and Annette Baca of Las Vegas, 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Estefanita Trujillo; brother, Manuel Baca and wife Susie all of Las Vegas, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. A rosary service was held Thursday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Las Vegas with the following serving as casket bearers: Santiago Lovato, Nathan Martinez, Benji Archuleta, Richard Martinez, Kevin Stoddard, and Jerry Trujillo. Serving as honorary will be her remaining grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
