Suzanne Johnston Suzi (Suzi Sunshine, Smile'n Sue, Sweet Suzi-Q) was born on August 19, 1981, to Cassandra L. "Cassie" and Gary R. Johnston. After a courageous two-year battle with a rare type of lymphoma cancer, Suzi passed away at age 35 on October 30, 2016. Despite having a challenging developmental disability, Suzi was the nicest, most polite and courteous human being on the planet; Suzi's beautiful smile enlightened everyone around her. Suzi loved the outdoors lakes, rivers, ocean, mountains, and being out on the family's boat. Suzi also loved going out for pizza and a movie with her friends. Suzi loved to swim and was a proud member of the Thurston County Thunderfish swim team; she won numerous "gold medals" at the annual State Special Olympics. Suzi went to school in the Yelm District, and later worked as an assistant childcare helper, specializing in working with babies. Preceding Suzi in death were her mother, Cassandra; grandparents, Vern and Betty Briscoe; and uncle, Larry Briscoe. Surviving Suzi are father, Gary; stand-by guardian, Karen Woodsum; brother, Bryon; grandmother, Marge Baker; sister-in-law, Courtney Johnston; aunt and uncle, Sallie and John Richards; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Special thanks to Dr. Shustov and team at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the doctors and nurses at the University of Washington Medical Center (especially the 8-SA and 7th floors), Dr. McKenzie and team at Providence Lacey Cancer Clinic, and Providence St. Peter Hospital. Celebration of Life services for Suzi will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at South Sound Manor, 455 North St. SE, Tumwater, with reception following.
