Suzanne C. Phelps, 62, of Hop Bottom, died Saturday afternoon, July 2, 2011, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. She was the wife of Elwood G. Phelps. They would have celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary on July 19. She was born on Jan. 28, 1949, in Meshoppen, daughter of the late Elwood V. and Etta Mae Hawk Squier. She was a 1967 graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Hop Bottom. She was a devoted wife, mother and sister and will be missed dearly. Also surviving are a son, Timothy G. Phelps and wife Heather of Union Dale; three sisters: Marsha Creeley of Abington Manor, Janice Squier of Glenwood; and Carol Pompey and her husband Glenn of Glenwood; three sisters-in-law: Marcia Albertson and husband, James of Virginia, Janice Burgerhoff and husband Carl of Louisiana, and Carol Jones and husband Terry of Stroudsburg; a brother-in-law, Dennis Phelps and wife Patricia of Hop Bottom; and a granddaughter, Addison Elizabeth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by a brother, Thomas E. Squier; and her mother and father-in-law, Gerald and Frieda Phelps. The funeral is today, Wednesday, July 6, at 11 a.m. in the Charles H. Litwin Funeral Home, 91 State Street, Nicholson, with services by Rev. Kim Bode.Interment, Nicholson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, Hop Bottom.
