Sydney "Syd" OlneyGrangerSydney Martin Olney died peacefully with his sister by his side on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines from acute myeloid leukemia. He was born on December 29, 1949 in Burbank, CA to Harold and Doris (Sheldon) Olney and graduated from Urbandale High School. He then earned a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology from Iowa State University. Syd loved the Rocky Mountains and worked in Colorado for several years before returning to Des Moines where he dedicated 30 years to the U. S. Postal Service. He loved fishing, gardening, movies and music, and the out-of-doors. He cared deeply about his faith, the natural world, and those less fortunate that himself. Syd was beloved by his family and is survived by his father; his sister, Sherry Hergenrader; and his niece, Jessie (Roxanne) Faryar, and their children, Clark and Mollie. He was preceded in death by his mother. He is also survived by special cousins, Lindsey (Jason) Oliver and Ryan Olney and their mother, Pat, and many other dear cousins and friends.
