Pliska, Sylvester "Sal"Sylvester "Sal" John Pliska, age 90, of Stevens Point passed away Saturday September 9, 2017 at Portage County Health Care Center.A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held Friday September 15, 2017 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stevens Point. Rev. Jerzy Rebacz will officiate. Friends and family will gather to share memories on Friday from 9:30-10:45AM at church. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery with full Military Honors.Sylvester was born on November 26, 1926, the son of John and Gertrude (Stanczyk) Pliska in Stevens Point where he also attended local schools. In 1944 he graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School. After graduating Sal enlisted in the Navy as a Merchant Marine and was honorably discharged in 1945. On April 20, 1950 Sal married Jeanne Ballard in Stevens Point. He worked as a printer for Weber Tackle Company and retired as a custodian at the Portage County Courthouse. Sal also enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking.He is survived by his son: John (Sue) Pliska, 5 daughters: Mary Ellen (Curt) Conrad, Pat (John) Kedrowski, Jeanne (Bill) Young, Carol (Bob) Becker, and Susan (John) Basill. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward, wife Jeanne, and one great grandchild.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Portage County.The 'Kielbasa Kid' was a non-assuming humble man known for his signature cardigan sweater, the indoor/outdoor pellet gun, and Point Beer.
