Therlo Henry West passed away at the age of 89 on August 13, 2022, at his home in Hallandale Beach, Florida.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years, Lola, his sister Margaret, two brothers, Theo and Jesse, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Therlo and his twin brother Theo were born in LaFayette, Georgia on June 24, 1933, into a loving home. Therlo, along with his mother, was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 19, 1950.
He served at Brooklyn Bethel from 1953 to 1964 where he enjoyed his work, first on a linotype machine producing address labels for magazine subscriptions, and later in the Treasurer’s Office. His experience at Bethel impacted him for the rest of his life, and he always encouraged young ones to make Bethel service a goal.
On November 7, 1964, he and Lola were married in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and ten days later they began their exciting life in the circuit work together. Over the next 35 years, they visited congregations in at least 7 states. Therlo loved the circuit work, and he was especially fond of teaching Pioneer Service School.
In 1999, he and Lola became special pioneers in south Florida and Therlo continued to be a source of encouragement to many until the end of his life. He was dearly loved for his mild spirit, kind manner and his tremendous sense of humor. Therlo spent nearly 70 years in special full-time service, and he never wavered in his love for and loyalty to his God, Jehovah. He always tried to live in accord with his favorite verse, 1 Chronicles 28:9.
