Teresa M. HerrmannBorn: August 29, 1916 Died: October 14, 2016 Teresa (Terese) M. Herrmann, age 100, in the company of her family was peacefully called home by God and reunited with her beloved husband, Ernest, loving son, Edward and cherished daughter, Mary Terese on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center.Delivered by her father, Teresa was born on August 29, 1916 on the family farm in Virgil, IL. She was the fourth of nine children of Andrew and Mary (Berkes) Faber and only nine when her mother died. John and Helen Sauber of Virgil had sponsored Andrew from Luxembourg to work on the farm prior to his marriage to Mary. After Mary's death, Helen kindly offered to help him by inviting one of the children to live with her. Terese, who always remained close to her dear Faber family, was selected. Two years later when Helen became ill, her son Paul and Adeline Sauber extended the invitation for Terese to live with them and their family. She stayed with them until her marriage to Ernest M. Herrmann on May 4, 1940 at St. Peter and Paul Church in Virgil.Early in life, she learned perseverance from her father and from her mother a compassionate spirit and household skills that endured. In her teens she learned the art of cooking, baking and sewing. She graduated from the Elgin School of Beauty Culture and worked as a beautician at Hotel Baker in St. Charles. Throughout life, she generously cared for others and shared her love, talents and skills within and beyond family and relatives. In 1941 Terese and Ernie moved to Sycamore where Ernie was employed by Ideal Industries. Together they raised their four children and made Sycamore their home and St. Mary's Church their faith community for the rest of their lives. Terese assisted with religious education and numerous church committees and functions, co-chairing the parish's convent renovation for the Sisters of Mercy. She initiated the funeral dinners in the 1960's continuing to volunteer for over 50 years and cared for the altar linens for over 30 years. Alongside Ernie, Terese helped with Knights of Columbus fund drives and events. She belonged to the Kishwaukee Hospital Auxiliary volunteering in the gift shop, served as an election judge and canvassed her neighborhood for various charitable causes. Her family's young in spirit matriarch, Terese was a most loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, sister and aunt. She was a superb home-maker, known for her Wednesday night family meals, a tradition begun after her son, Ed's, untimely death in 1965 and continuing until she was 95. A vibrant woman of strong faith and integrity, a gracious and "classy" lady, Terese lived for others and was a witness to God's maternal heart to the end of her days. She will be deeply missed by her forever grateful family: one son, James E. (Patricia) Herrmann; and one daughter, Sister Judith Herrmann, RSM, both of Sycamore; son-in-law, Jerry Powell of Altamont, IL; former daughter-in-law, JoAnn Herrmann of Sycamore; two grandchildren, Jeffrey (Laura) Herrmann and Jay Herrmann, both of Sycamore; and three great-grandchildren, Bradley, Thomas and Benjamin of Sycamore. Also surviving are one sister, Mary Johnson of Kaneville; three sister-in-law's, Mary Margaret Faber of Virgil, Pauline Faber of Lily Lake and Elizabeth Sauber of Sycamore as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents; husband, Ernest (1994); son, Edward (1965) and daughter, Mary Terese (2002); four brothers, Joseph, Henry, Anthony and Lawrence; three sisters, Margaret Faber, Rose (Faber) Bertrum and Madelyn (Faber) Sibley; and Paul and Adeline (Welter) Sauber, Charles Sauber, Edward Sauber, Elinor (Sauber) Firestone and Jean (Sauber) Petit.
