Theo LongAbilene, TXTheo Long, 101, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 in Abilene.Visitation for Theo will be held from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Thursday, July 13 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Friday, July 14, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with John Fanning officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.Theo was born on November 6, 1915, in View, Texas to Jim and Hattie Richards. Theo attended Butterfield School and Abilene High School. Theo married J. W. Long on October 13, 1934. They lived in the View and Caps area until 1962 when they move to Abilene. They were proud parents to Jerry Long who was born in 1950.Theo worked selling clothing for several local stores most of her life. After retirement Theo and her husband J. W. traveled for many years, taking more than 50 trips, most of them with Bilbrey Tours. Theo was happiest when she was helping others. She was a volunteer thru the Retired Senior Volunteer Program sponsored by West Texas Rehab for many groups and organizations such and Abilene Chamber of Commerce, Abilene ISD, Hendrick Home for Children, West Texas Fair, Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Grace Museum and many, many more.Theo was a member of View Baptist Church.Theo was proceded in death by her parents Jim and Hattie Richards, her husband J. W. in 2013, her son Jerry in 2004 and two brothers Billy and Horace Richards.Theo is survived by nephews Billy and Les Richards of Abilene, Don Richards of Fullerton California and numerous cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff at Willow Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center in Abilene, and also Hendrick Hospice Care for their love and care given to Theo.
