Theodore CHITWOOD Obituary

Apr 23, 1946 - Nov 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
CHITWOOD, II, Theodore Theodore Charles "Charlie" Chitwood II, 70, passed away on November 1st, 2016. Charlie was born on April 23, 1946 in Chapel Hill, TN. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Raney Chitwood, his son, Bryan Christopher Chitwood, daughter-in-law, Jodi Accaria Chitwood, and two grandchildren, Allison and Connor. Charlie was the son of Sara and Theodore Chitwood and brother to Judy Chitwood. He attended Overton High School in Nashville, Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro, TN, and received an MBA from the University of Tennessee. He served in the Air Force and later as a CPA and CFO for several manufacturing companies. After retirement, Charlie and Dorothy traveled extensively and enjoyed visiting and learning new cultures. Charlie became a kidney transplant recipient in 2000 and has been an ardent supporter of the and LifeLink. He spoke on behalf of organ donation and mentored many recipients on their transplant journey. Charlie also served on the Friends of Music at Emory executive board, Atlanta Chamber Players board, and was an active member of Glenn United Methodist Church. Charlie was nurtured by parents of strong faith, love of family and friends, and generosity of spirit. He had a passion for all things: reading, traveling, Wake Forest sports, reflective of his pride in son, Bryan, and doting on his two grandchildren. On his desk, he kept Hamilton Jordan's book, There is No Such Thing as a Bad Day. No matter what the circumstances, a common refrain would be "How are you doing, Charlie?" "I'm great, just great." Charlie's spirit will live on as a positive, upbeat, caring, gentle, and generous man. His love and generosity changed the lives and outlooks of countless people from all faiths and walks of life. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 6th at 2pm at Glenn United Methodist Church with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the NKF ( www.kidney.org) or Glenn UMC ( www.glennumc.org).
