In Loving Memory

THEODORE ‘Teddy’ WHITE III, was born on September 16, 1941, in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York. He was the first son of Cora Jones White and Theodore White II with Victoria, who preceded him in death, joining the family a few years later. He attended East New York Vocational High School.

After high school, Ted worked as an assistant supervisor at Remco (Ditmas) Glass Factory, creating specialty wine glasses. Years later, he went on to become a Corrections Officer for the New York State Department of Corrections in Otisville, New York and met his current wife Diane in Brooklyn, NY. They wed on May 26th, 1979, followed by the birth of his 2nd daughter Dine’ in 1980. Subsequently, transferring to the NYC Housing Department in New York City, where he retired in 2003.

Shortly after Dine’s birth, Theodore, Diane, and Dine’ moved to Pomona, N.Y., where they resided for the next 35 years.

Five years ago, Teddy and his wife relocated to Maryland to be closer to their daughter, whom he was so proud of. Ted and Diane travelled often, with his most rewarding trip being going to the motherland, Africa. There he visited Tanzania, Arusha, Zanzibar, Dar es Salam but always considered Brooklyn his home.

Teddy was not an avid book reader but could be found reading any and every newspaper in sight, absorbing articles about history and current events and was well versed in a variety of topics. He loved speaking with people who were able to feed his thirst for knowledge but did not hesitate to challenge those whose information questionable.

Ted was an avid Jazz enthusiast, acquiring an extensive Jazz collection. With the opportunity to work at a family member’s Jazz club, the Up Over Jazz Club, he lived out a dream, connecting with famous Jazz musicians who performed at the club while also having the opportunity to mingle and do what he did best, talk.

In Ted’s younger years, he and former wife Joyce welcomed the birth of his first-born Deirdre, who blessed him with his first beloved grandchild Evin, followed by his grandson Dion .

Ted White was a strong-willed individual, who voiced his opinion just as strong, but had an enormous soft spot for the young and for families, always ending his conversations with FAMILY FIRST.

He leaves to mourn his devoted wife Diane; daughters Deirdre and Dine’; granddaughter Evin; grandson Dion; sister Karyn; brother Carl; sister-in -law Mary; brother-in-law Frank; a beloved niece, many nephews, and a host of devoted cousins, extended family, and many, many friends.
