THOMAS DEVRIEZE

GRANTIE CITY — Thomas E. "Tom" DeVrieze, 68, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at Gateway Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Tom was born on Nov. 24, 1948 in Dodge Center, MN; a son of the late William and Florence (Overby) DeVrieze Harr. Tom worked several years for the city of Granite City. He gave many years of his talent to United Bag Company in St. Louis; worked as an EMT for the Granite City Fire Department, Ace Hardware, Advance Auto Parts, C & E I Railroad and Granite City Steel. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Granite City Masonic Lodge #835. In his free time Tom loved to go to car shows and show his own car. But most of all Tom loved to spend time with his family and friends.

He is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Terry (Puhse) DeVrieze, whom he married on April 18, 1970; his daughters, Dawn DeVrieze and fiance' Sean Lupardus of Glen Carbon, Kristie DeVrieze of Granite City; his grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Ferris of Granite City, Erin Amber Ferris of Holiday Shores, Dalton Thomas Ferris of Glen Carbon; nephew, Michael and (Tova) DeVrieze of Long Beach, CA; his cat, Chester; close family friends, Tom Candler, George Arnold, John Lanning, Rick Dawes and many other extended family members and close friends.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers; William, Robert and Dennis and his 2 twin infant sisters.

Friends may call on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 from 4 - 8 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Tom's life, services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian Smith officiating. Burial will follow with military rites at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to the .
