Thomas Francis Moran IIIThomas Francis Moran III, 80, of Lafayette died on November 15, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital East following a short illness. Tom was born on October 14, 1935 in Lafayette, IN to the late Thomas Francis Moran Jr. and Mary Louise Moran Stubbs. He was a lifelong resident of Lafayette and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1953. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Purdue University in 1959 where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. On August 15, 1959, he married Ruth Elizabeth Swanson in La Grange, IL. She preceded him in death. Tom worked for National Homes Acceptance, Glick Realty, and Perry Chemical Manufacturing where he retired in 2000. He was a 50+ year member of Central Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, deacon, trustee, taught many children in the Craft Shop and was an advisor to the high school youth group. As a Diamond Level Rotarian he served on the Board of Directors including president and treasurer plus he volunteered many hours to their community activities. He enjoyed the local arts community and was a member of the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra (LSO) Foundation Board of Directors, Friends of the LSO Board of Directors, the Pass the Baton Committee, and Treasurer of the Lafayette Symphony Guild; was a committed supporter of Purdue University Convocations, was active with Civic Theatre on their Board of Directors, chaired fundraising efforts, and was the Master Carpenter for countless productions. He was a Tippecanoe County Historical Association Board member including treasurer and president and an active volunteer of the Feast of the Hunter's Moon for many years. He participated in 35 Home Hospital Fairs; and co-chaired with Ruth, two of the early Taste of Tippecanoe festivals; he was a past president of the Board of Directors of Meals on Wheels and Lafayette Fly Fishers Association; he also helped build houses through Habitat for Humanity. He remained an active member of the Beta Mu chapter of Beta Theta Pi at Purdue University. Because his dedication and service to these organizations and the community, Tom has been presented numerous awards. Surviving are his children Katherine Meeks (husband Cyrus) of West Lafayette, Virginia Welsh (husband Chris) of Aledo, TX, Kent Moran (wife Catherine) of Dyer, IN, and Leslie Goeldner (husband Kevin) of Aledo, TX. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Andrew Meeks, Kristin Welsh Jansen (husband Kolby), Kaitlin Welsh, Ian and Nathan Moran, and Grace and Seth Goeldner. Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Louise Moran Shook. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 20 at 4:00 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Comstock and Rev. Jeff Cover officiating. A reception will follow the service at Central Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church's Yorger Memorial Fund or Sound project, 31 N 7th Street, Lafayette, IN 47901 or to Civic Theatre of Greater Lafayette, 313 N 5th St., Lafayette, IN 47901.
