Thomas Issac Harnish passed away October 28, 2011 in Albuquerque, N.M., his home since 1993. He was born on August 8, 1923 in LeQuille, Nova Scotia, Can., and grew up in Cambridge, Mass. with his parents until he volunteered to serve as a pilot in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He married Jane Louise Dale of Montrose, daughter of Norman C. Dale and Laura J. Dale in Charlotte, N.C., on October 7, 1944. After being discharged as a first lieutenant at the war's end, he returned to Montrose and built the Montrose Cleaners into a thriving business. Involvement with the local Presbyterian Church led to Tom and Jane being commissioned missionaries of the Board of Foreign Missions of the United Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. With his family, Tom fulfilled assignments as Mission Treasurer in Korea, Guatemala and Mexico as well as hospital administrator of the Presbyterian American Hospital in Guatemala City. Returning to the United States in 1960, Tom had an extraordinary and successful career in healthcare until he retired in 1988.Tom is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jane Dale Harnish; son Thomas Dale Harnish and wife, Kate, of Carlsbad, Calif., son Stephen Norman Harnish, M.D. and wife Marsha of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter Jane Anne Dempsey and husband Stephen of Albuquerque, N.M. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A service of burial of his cremated remains will be held at the Montrose Cemetery at 11 a.m., April 28, 2012.
