Thomas "Thom" Henry Tyson peacefully passed away at home from Alzheimer's at the age of 81 on Saturday, April 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in Jackson, TN. He leaves behind several cherished friends and family members including Whitney Tyson, Regina Herbert, Errica Tyson, Sheva Tyson, Ercillia Tyson, Devontea Tyson, Jahrielle Tyson, AubrielleTyson, Thomas M. Tyson, and many others.
Thomas H. Tyson was born in Madison County on March 20, 1943, by midwife to parents Emma McIntee and George "Buddy" Tyson and older brother Sherman Tyson, who each preceded him in death. Thom's accomplishments include graduating and receiving his diploma from West High School in 1963, becoming a deacon at Bethlehem No.1 Baptist Church on September 12, 1992, working as a sharecropper, sought employment at the Armira Tannery, the Mercer Co-Op, and the Madison County Highway Dept for a total of 49 long years of service before retiring in 2015 at the age of 72. He thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors and in nature where he could be found playing baseball, hunting, fishing, gardening, tending to his animals, both domestic and farm, working in his shed, and tinkering with automobiles, but above all else, he enjoyed being among his family and friends the most.
Thom will forever be remembered as one of the most hard-working, humorous, fun-loving, upright, outspoken, generous, and friendliest people anyone could ever know. Being around him always felt warm and welcoming, like a solid hug or pat on the back that you didn't know you needed until received. No matter how you felt when you arrived on his doorstep, you would always leave with a laugh, a smile, a story in mind, and a full belly while smelling of hickory smoke. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones forever.
He lived a great life.
Guestbook
I met mr. Tyson through a friend, and he were always happy to see Prentice Cole and I,most of the time he would be outside getting his garden ready to plant. I got a chance to video him on his tractor preparing to plant his greens and watermelon peas, it were a true blessing just to be in his company. Most definitely will be missed.

Tom and I always talked “old times.” He could remember everyone in community and always entertaining. He occasionally fished and enjoyed being outside with his beagles and guineas.
Kim Stanfield sends their condolences.
Tom was a great guy. He always had a smile and a laugh to share. He loved his family and will be missed by many.
My sympathy to you all. Mr. Thom was one of the kindest men I’ve ever know. My dad grew up with him and considered him a good friend. My dad passed away two years ago. And up until a year before that, Mr. Thom would go by and visit with my dad nearly every day in Mercer. My dad had dementia so they were a pair to be around. They would tell me stories from the past of them growing up together. I enjoyed being around him.
Gina Thompson sends their condolences.
