Thomas (Tom) Joseph Less died Dec 19, 2019. He was 74.
Mr. Less was born January 13, 1945 in Clinton, Iowa to Walter and Maxine Less. In 1964 he graduated from St. Mary's High School in Clinton. Mr. Less received a BA in Economics from Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Missouri and a MBA from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Tom served in the U.S. Army from Aug 1968 to Aug 1970. He completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was attached to the Army Air Defense Command (ARADCOM) at Homestead Air Force Base in Florida and served at a Nike Hercules missile site in Hialeah, Florida. Tom loved sightseeing in the Everglades National Park and swimming at Cape Florida State Park at the tip of Key Biscayne.
Tom began his accounting/management career at the Gas Service Company in Kansas City, Missouri. It was there that he met his future wife, Sandra McKean. Tom and Sandra were married May 15, 1976 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri.
In Kansas City, Tom was a cost accountant at the H.D.Lee Corporate Headquarters. He always liked to tell the story about how the H.D. Lee Executive Board would occasionally summon him to model prototype jeans. He loved to say that he went from a nerd in high school to a model at H.D.Lee.
Tom and Sandra have two daughters both born in Missouri. Leia Suzanne was born in Kansas City and Lona Jolette in Columbia. Both daughters have given Tom and Sandra two grandchildren.
Tom retired as Controller of Innovation Industries in Russellville, Arkansas at the end of 2012. In 2015 he and his wife moved to Keller, TX to be closer to family.
Mr. Less was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James, of Ferguson British Columbia. He is survived by his wife of the home; two brothers: Lawrence of Arcadia CA and David of Issaquah WA; two daughters, Leia Suzanne Less (Brett) of Keller TX and Lona Jolette Ellis (Matt) of McKinney TX; four grandchildren, Sophia and Arabel Schmuki of Keller TX, and Rylan and Charlotte Ellis of McKinney TX.
Tom was extremely thankful to live his last years close to family. He always said the benefits of moving close to his children and grandchildren were "priceless."
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 4 at the Keller United Methodist Church at 1025 Johnson Road in Keller, TX 76248.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (https://tribute.themmrf.org/ThomasLess) or the Keller United Methodist Church.
