Thomas Joseph RyanAGE: 68 • Port MonmouthThomas Joseph Ryan, age 68, of Port Monmouth, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, May, 26, 2017 at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank, NJ, surrounded by his loving family. Thomas was born on January 7, 1949 in Jersey City, NJ. In 1959, Thomas and his family moved to Hazlet, NJ, and then to Red Bank in 1966. Thomas graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in 1967, and attended Husson College in Bangor, Maine. On August 30, 1969, Thomas married the love of his life, Linda Butzko, whom he called "honey"and they enjoyed 47 years together, raising a beautiful family. Thomas was employed by Shop Rite of Old Bridge, and retired in 1988 after 20 years of dedicated service. Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Linda Ryan; daughter Karen Granholm & son-in-law Eric Granholm of Port Monmouth NJ; daughter Sharyn Brady, and son-in-law Russell Brady, of Hazlet , NJ; daughter Kathleen Ryan, of Manville, NJ; four grandchildren, Ashley and Sydney Granholm, and Connor and Abigail Brady; sister Doreen Ryan and wife, Laurie Marks of Harwich Port, MA; brother Kenneth Ryan and his wife Eileen Ryan, of Red Bank, NJ; Brother-in-law George Butzko and his wife, Valerie, of White Mills, PA, and Brother-in-law Andrew Butzko, of Port Monmouth, NJ; many nieces and nephews, cousins, his loyal dog Bailey, grand-dog Mason, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Joseph Ryan; and grandparents, George and Dorothea Introcaso, and Margaret Ryan.First and foremost, Thomas enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren. He was an avid Yankees fan, loved music, concerts, the movies and his sweets. Thomas thoroughly enjoyed travel. Cruises to Bermuda, Alaska, Nova Scotia, and the islands were memorable times with family. His favorite places included Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and the Pocono mountains. Thomas was a devoted animal lover, and pets were always an integral part of the family. As an active parishioner of St. Mary's of New Monmouth, Thomas enjoyed attending Mass each Sunday, and visits from Father Carlos, Father Bill, and his Pastor, Father Jeff Kegley. The Ryan family would like to extend thanks to the VNA and Riverview Hospital for their excellent care.Visitation will be held on Monday, May 29, 2017 from 3-7 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered on Tuesday May 30, 2017 at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown.
