Thomas McClellanJune 21, 1949-June 19, 2017Salem, OR - Thomas McClellan passed away on June 19th while on vacation in Sydney, Australia. He was born on June 21, 1949 in Brooklyn, New York to William, a New York police officer, and Dolores, a homemaker. Tom was the oldest of 5 children. He survived Catholic school and enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17. He served 2 Tours in Vietnam and went to Australia in 1969. Tom was an engineer for 30 years in New York City working at the Helmsley Hotel. He retired to Salem Oregon in August 2012. He met many new friends here and enjoyed playing Texas Hold'em and camping in the great outdoors. Tom always had a story to tell but was also willing to lend an ear and was kind and generous to everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother Doug. He is survived by his brother Bob and sisters Susan and Laurie and an extended family of Aunts, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 22nd from 9 AM-11 AM at Salem Alliance Church annex located at 555 Gaines St NE behind Broadway Coffee House. All are welcome to attend. He will be interred at Veterans cemetery in Portland at a future date.
