Sep 24, 1930 - Oct 30, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Taylor Thomas Muir Taylor, died peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 86 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Tom is preceded in death by his parents Margaret and James Taylor and his brother George. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol; his daughter, Carol (John) Dreska and grandchildren, John Thomas and Taylor; his daughter, Kimberlee (Rick) Rechtein and grandchildren, Jesse and Morgan; his son, Todd (Rendi) Taylor; and his sister, Margaret (Tom) Sixt. Tom was born on September 23, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois. Tom served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, rising to the rank of Corporal as a combat engineer. He graduated from Capital University in 1956 with a degree in education, and received a Master's degree from Wittenberg University. Tom completed his student teaching in the Gahanna-Jefferson School District and went on to serve 30 years as both teacher and administrator in Gahanna, proudly spending 21 of those years as the first principal of Royal Manor Elementary. After retirement in 1986, he and Carol enjoyed many years of happy and healthy retirement, travelling between Columbus, Ohio and Naples, Florida. Tom lived an active and full life. While he was able, he was always a committed member of his church and community, loved spending time with family, tinkering at his work bench, playing golf and grabbing a beer and swapping stories with life-long friends. Always a loyal fan, he enjoyed rooting for his favorite teams - his beloved Capital Crusaders, the Chicago Cubs and Bears and, of course, the Buckeyes. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all who cared for Tom during the past four years at Wesley Ridge, English Garden. Their tender care and compassion was a constant comfort and blessing. Calling hours will take place on Saturday, November 12, between 10 a.m.-12 noon, followed by a 12 noon. Funeral service at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST in Gahanna, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. A graveside ceremony will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5990 E.
