HAMPTON, Va. — Thomas Randall "Randy" Bridges, 68, passed away on Nov. 28, 2015.
Randy was born on March 9, 1947 in Newport News, Virginia to Elaine Williams McCallum and Thomas Newton Bridges. Randy grew up in McColl, South Carolina and graduated from high school in 1965 as the class valedictorian. While in high school he was an avid basketball player as well as the class president during his senior year.
Randy was a member of the McColl Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. He graduated from Davidson College in 1969 with a degree in religion and received his master's degree from William and Mary in 1971.
Randy taught school in his early career followed later by a career in banking and other financial services. He had a great love for people and enjoyed helping others through counseling. Some of his greatest passions were his love for music, reading, singing, playing the piano, bridge, debate, chess, Texas holdem, playing softball, and last but not least the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid fan of all types of sports, namely football.
Randy was very strong in his faith. Most recently attending Northwest Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, where he was a member for 39 years, and once again singing in the choir, participating in Christmas musicals and serving as a deacon for many years.
Randy was predeceased by his parents Elaine Williams McCallum of Laurinburg and Thomas Newton Bridges of Hampton, his stepfather Joseph B. McCallum, III of McColl, South Carolina, his grandparents Alma Kerr Morris and Leonard Morris of Newport News, Virginia and Mollie Poe Bridges and Arthur Thomas Bridges of Sanford, North Carolina, and his nephew Joseph McCallum Nichols of Laurinburg.
Survivors include his wife Sheila Bridges of Hampton, his daughter Bonnie Marie Bridges of Yorktown, his sister Candy McCallum Nichols (Dean) of Laurinburg, and his nephew Charles D. Nichols, III (Melanie) of Laurinburg. Randy was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Arrangements made by Weymouth Funeral Home, Newport News, VA. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Buckroe Baptist Church, 1819 N Mallory Street, Hampton, VA 23664.
