THOMAS R. 'TOMMY' SHERIDAN, 79 HANOVER - Thomas R. "Tommy" Sheridan, was proud of his community and truly generous with his time, serving the needs of his family, friends and community before his own. Tommy died on Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the age of 79, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Tommy was born on February 6, 1934, the son of Ralph "Judge" and Emma "Mimi" (Sullivan) Sheridan in Freeport, Illinois. He attended Aquin Catholic High School in Freeport and graduated with the Class of 1952. He attended Notre Dame University in 1953, before serving his country in the United States Army from 1954-1957. Tommy married Constance "Connie" Bailey on May 1, 1954, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Freeport. After he was discharged, Tommy returned to his studies at Notre Dame, where earned his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration in 1959. After graduation, Tommy moved to Hanover, Illinois, to work at his aunt and uncle's hardware store. Tommy began working at Sullivan's Hardware store in 1960 and became part owner in 1966. He continued to operate the hardware store until it closed in 1990. Tommy was a vital member of the Hanover community and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover. He was also instrumental in starting the Hanover Sports Boosters and the Hanover Ambulance Association. Tommy's generous donations over his lifetime earned him an induction into the Northwest Illinois Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. He loved reading, had a passion for politics and enjoyed watching the Chicago White Sox and the Green Bay Packers. Most of all, Tommy cherished spending time and sharing stories with his family and friends. Tommy will be lovingly missed by his wife of 59 years, Connie; nine children, Tim (Judy) Sheridan, Phil (Trish) Sheridan, Kelly (Karen) Sheridan, Patrick (Julie) Sheridan, Anthony (Tara) Sheridan, Terry Sheridan, Kerry (Rob) McCullough, Danny Sheridan and Clancy (Noreen) Sheridan; ten grandchildren, Lesley Sheridan, Angela (Elizabeth) Sheridan, Kevin Sheridan, Brigid Sheridan, Emily (Joel) Allen, Darby, Quinn and Clare McCullough, Aiden and Flynn Sheridan and one great-grandchild, Declan Allen. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Jane Bradley and Ann Sheridan; and one brother in infancy, Phil. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover. Cremation Rites will be accorded following the Mass. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, Illinois. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m., following the visitation. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 24, in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Autism Speaks,
