Timothy Andrew Kuretich, 70, of Canon City, passed away peacefully Friday, October 21, 2016, at St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo. Tim was born on April 17, 1946, to the late Andrew and Caroline (O'Connor) Kuretich in Canon City. A proud veteran, Tim served in the
US Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk and the
US Marine Corps between 1964 and 1977 earning the rank of staff sergeant. His military decorations included: Navy-Marine Corp Medal for Heroism, Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, RVN Gallantry Cross and Rifle Expert Badge. Tim returned to Colorado and served as Chief of Police in Fairplay, Colorado, until 1987. He retired as Senior Maintenance Mechanic with the Cotter Corporation in 2003. Tim had a great love for the outdoors. As a young man, he spent his early adulthood as a ranch hand for the Dooly Canterbury Ranch in Hartsel, Colorado. He treasured his annual fishing and hunting trips with family. Tim also had a great love for skydiving. He continued to be an avid jumper until the past year. He was also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and National Elk Federation. He is survived by his three children: Stephanie Fleetwood of Penrose, Colorado; Tammy (Chris) Tressler of Old Bridge, New Jersey; and Christopher (Andrea) Kuretich of Cortland, New York. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Cathy Pruitt of Milford, Kansas; Geralyn (Michael) Apple; Imelda (Melvin) Watkins of Canon City; a sister-in-law Ronna Kuretich, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Caroline Flynn, a brother, Morgan Kuretich, and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Pruitt. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain Vale Memorial Park in Canon City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the choice of one's charity. Arrangements are being handled through Holt Family Funeral Home, Canon City.
